Net Impact Tour of Alberici Headqaurters

Earlier today five members of Wash U Net Impact ventured out to the headquarters of Alberici. Commonly mispronounced, Alberici (Al-behr-ee-see) Enterprises works internationally to provide top-notch construction services to large businesses, municipalities, governments, and organizations. Seven years ago the new HQ right off of Highway 170 on Page was completed. The company stripped an old steel warehouse, kept the frame, and rebuilt to provide office space and a parking garage. It is acclaimed the third highest ranked LEED building in the world. Everything from the carpet tiles, efficient energy and heat management system, outdoor prairie preservation, and coffee creamer were taken into account in the decision to create one of the greenest headquarters in the world. Even though their wind turbine does not spin all of the time, it provides up to 20% of the building’s energy needs. Solar thermal panels provide 90% of the hot water needs. Another cool fact, excess heat in the building is used to cool it later. WEIRD, huh? On the tour we were able to see best practices in green building, and learn first-hand the benefits of each system improvements. It was a remarkable experience. If you came with us earlier today, please feel free to add a comment to this post about your experience!
